After sleepwalking through his role in the sex comedy Great Grand Masti, Riteish Deshmukh is back on screen, this time, with a solo hero film – Banjo – directed by Ravi Jadhav who has directed multiple National Award-winning Marathi films such as Natarang (2010) and Balgandharva (2011).

The makers of Banjo released its trailer today which is loud, colourful and vibrant and Riteish looks pretty awesome as the street rockstar with his devil-may-care attitude and his Bombaiyya swag. He gets to romance Nargis Fakhri whose character tries to propel Riteish and his bandmates’ group to international fame.

The musical film brings to light the life and journey of the Banjo players in India – which is a first for mainstream Hindi cinema. The trailer launch which happened on Tuesday (August 9) was attended by real banjo players who are part of Lalbaug Beats – a banjo group from Lalbaug area of Mumbai, who have also been featured in the film.

The music has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar who earlier scored for Ravi Jadhav’s critically acclaimed Marathi film Balak Palak.

Riteish Deshmukh has not had a solo hero film in Bollywood for quite a while. However, his solo Marathi outing in 2014 – Lala Bhaari – directed by Madaari director Nishikant Kamat is the highest grossing Marathi film ever.
