No politics for Rajni

Can Rajinikanth make a foray into politics?

Fans of the superstar are waiting eagerly to see him take a political plunge.

The actor, who was associated with DMK for a period of five years (1996-2001), has announced in media that he is not going to enter politics ever again.

On an expected note, the decision has disappointed Rajni fans and politicos alike, but he’s not going to buzz because of all this.

“Politics is like an ocean. It is no kids’ play. I am beyond politics,” he said, when prodded to take the plunge. Rajinikanth, who turned 62 on 12.12.12, cleared the air over his political plans on Thursday evening at a function organised by his fans to felicitate him.

“1996 had a peculiar context that made me step into the political arena,” he recalled, explaining his tirade against the Jayalalithaa government, which had faced a groundswell of public aversion.

He was politically correct at that point of time and there was a change of government.

Since then, there has been a continuous discussion on whether he would take the plunge or not with most of the parties approaching him for support at the time of elections.

The actor said: “I am no coward. The present system puts hurdles even in front of wellintentioned politicians.”
