No grand celebrations in Mayawati birthday this year

Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati is not going to celebrate her 57th birthday on January 15 the way she has for number of years – with big rallies and grand display of money and power.

Mayawati has decided to celebrate the upcoming occasion in a straightforward manner – apparently because of the “horrible happenings” in the country of late.

In a note sent to party members, she has ordered them to offer blankets and other important items to the poor in their respective areas on her birthday.

“We have also got specific directions not to play Bollywood songs and display money or muscle power, which was an essential feature of her previous birthday celebrations,” pointed out a BSP leader on the condition of anonymity.

“In fact, Mayawati has realised that her birthday bash and the way she used to show her opulence every year have ultimately caused irreparable harm to the party. She has realised her mistakes and is trying to redesign all her programmes so that she could regain her lost votes in 2014,” the leader added.

The theme song of the day is going to be behenji Sansad ki sherni (behenji, the lioness of Parliament).

State BSP president Ram Achal Rajbhar said: “We want to celebrate the occasion with decency. The country has witnessed the most horrible incidents in recent days. We all are really sad and cannot celebrate any occasion with fanfare. Behenji’s birthday would be a simple programme in which the BSP workers would be asked to maintain decency.”
